Launch of First Legal Poker Website in Bulgaria - PokerStars.bg

In February 2014, the Bulgarian State Commission on Gambling issued the first licenses to PokerStars and Betfair. Five months and one change of ownership later the first - and as yet, only - legal poker website in the country is a fact. PokerStars.bg was launched on Friday and a $3,000 GTD Freeroll was held on Sunday to celebrate the occasion.

Rational Group's Head of Corporate Communication Eric Hollreiser:"We are proud to be the first locally licensed poker site in Bulgaria.”

Unlike the French or Italians, Bulgarians will join the PokerStars international player pool and will be able to take part in all major international online events. A more notable change is that transfer of funds among Bulgarian members will no longer be possible and there are new terms and condition for VIP bonus programs and VIP player points (VPP). The mobile application is expected in September while the new PokerStars 7 software is immediately available.

“Bulgaria is full of promise; poker is extremely popular in the country.” (Eric Hollreiser)

BG players were a small sensation in Vienna. The photo above shows four Bulgarians seated at the same table on Day 3 of EPT Vienna Main Event: Simeon Naydenov, Atanas Kavrakov, Rumen Nanev, and Ivan Neytchev.

Poker fans have been following the performance of the top live players who did quite well in EPT Season 10 (most notably with TWO Bulgarians at the Main Event final table in Vienna). Most of the stars of #BGPoker were also in attendance at the @Rio for the WSOP 2014. The top two all-time live winners, @Dimitar Danchev and @Simeon Naydenov, each cashed three times, with a notable runner-up finish for Danchev in Event 6, and a fourth place for Naydenov in Event 47.

Many of the top BG live winners are equally active online players and we wish them success and lots of cashes in the upcoming World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP 2014, 7-28 September).

Forever Young KidPoker and the Poker Brat Celebrate 40th and 50th Anniversaries

The July poker birthday chart is truly star-studded - @Vanessa Selbst @Liv Boeree (see our article under the #HappyBirthdaysOnRKH hashtag!)  @George Danzer (July 17th) and @Luca Moschitta (July 31st) to name a few. Yet even against that stellar line-up, two names shine brighter than the others:  @Daniel Negreanu (who turned 40 on July 26th) and @Phil Hellmuth (who celebrated his 50th birthday on July 16th)! Between them, the two Big Boys of poker have won $48,139,783 over their combined 44 years in live tournament poker!

Daniel partied in @Dan Bilzerian style and newly 50-year-old Hellmuth was recently all over the poker media as a giant poker-playing baby. Is it mid-life crisis, growing old with a vengeance or 'aging like a fine wine' :)..

Is Vegas a Hit or a Miss for You? Take the RankingHero Movie Title Survey!

Believe it or not, 'Sin City' is not every poker player's dream destination. In fact, some of poker's biggest stars are not too keen on 'the gambling capital of the world':

In a recent Nutblocker interview@Viktor "isildur1" Blom shared he didn't go to the WSOP this year because "I prefer being in Sweden rather than Las Vegas during the summer'.

2011 Main Event Champion @Pius Heinz has never hidden his dislike for the city:

“The problem about Vegas, for me honestly, is that it’s just about the worst place I’ve been to,” says Heinz. “I just totally hate the city, I think a lot of people understand, some people may not understand at all. I think it’s hit or miss for people, and for me it’s definitely a miss. I might play the Main, but not sure. I’m going back and forth.”

How do YOU feel about Vegas?

Choose the movie title option that best describes YOUR feelings about Vegas:

1. What Happens in Vegas

2. Viva Las Vegas

3. Vegas Vacation

4. Leaving Las Vegas

5. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

6. Honeymoon in Vegas

7. Other - please add title :)

5 Reasons Why I Voted for Daniel Negreanu in Poker Hall of Fame

#PokerHOF

As much as I love #womenINpoker  and would be happy to see @Jennifer Harman in Poker Hall of Fame, we are only allowed one nomination and I cast my vote for  @Daniel Negreanu :

  1. Because he is a model ambassador for poker
  2. Because of the sportsmanship and respect for opponents, fans, and media that he promotes and PRACTICES
  3. Because of his friendly and entertaining presence at the tables and in social media
  4. Because of his amazing and consistent success in live poker
  5. Because he just turned 40 and is finally eligible :)

Join Daniel Negreanu to Poker Hall of Fame N.O.W.!!! on Facebook if you agree :)

Now that I think of it, Negreanu would win my vote even in Santa elections :)

Public Nominations for Poker Hall of Fame Open Till August 15

The WSOP has declared open the process of public nominations for 2014 Poker Hall of Fame inductees:

Nominations will be accepted online and fans are encouraged to participate by submitting their nominee along with a brief explanation. All submissions will be tabulated and the top 10 nominations will be reviewed by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council. The existing Poker Hall of Fame members and a blue ribbon media panel will then cast votes of the final list of nominees to determine the class of 2014.

The Poker Hall of Fame was founded in 1979 by @Benny Binion and only 46 people have been inducted to date. Public voting was introduced in 2009 and, following the nomination of @Tom Dwan (then 23 years old), an age restriction was adopted in 2011. According to what is now known as the "Chip Reese rule", inductees must be at  least 40 years old, which makes @Daniel Negreanu eligible for the first time this year. (The late @David 'Chip' Rees was 40 years old when he was inducted as the youngest Hall of Fame member).

Other requirements include:

A gambler must have played poker against acknowledged top competition,
Played for high stakes,
Played consistently well, gained the respect of peers,
And stood the test of time.
Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

Last year's nominees and inductees:

@Tom McEvoy and @Thuan B. "Scotty" Nguyen were the two players selected last year. The other nominees were: @Chris Bjorin @Humberto Brenes @David Chiu @Thor Hansen @Jennifer Harman @Mike Matusow  @Carlos Mortensen @Huck Seed.

You can vote until August 15th. Who would you like to see inducted in Poker Hall of Fame? #PokerHOF
