LAPT8 Uruguay: Rojas and Eghi fall, four remain

Right before players went on break, we lost another player.

After Ariel Eghi raised to 42,000 from the cutoff, Patricio Rojas moved all-in for about 230,000 from the big blind.

Eghi, who only had about 140,000 behind, called all-in. Rojas tabled [ad][ks] but Eghi had him beat with [as][ac].

The [ah][jd][js][kc][3d] board connected heavily with both players but Eghi's full house took the pot.

Eghi doubled up while Rojas was left with just about 50,000.

Then, a very short-stacked Rojas pushed his two big blinds in from the small blind and Mario Lopez called from the big blind.

Rojas had [4d][2s] and was dominated by Lopez's [ac][4s].

The board ran [7h][3s][8c][jd][7d] and Rojas went on a permanent break. Rojas won $36,280 for finishing 6th while Lopez's lead grew by a bit.

3rd-place finisher, Patricio Rojas

When players got back from break, they were greeted with 12,000/24,000 blinds and another elimination.

Eghi raised to 50,000 and Hilario Quijada three-bet to 144,000. Eghi moved all-in for about 380,000 and Quijada snap-called with [ac][qh].

Eghi tabled [ad][js] but couldn't improve on the [3s][qd][6d][9s][ks] board and was knocked out of the tournament.

Eghi won $47,940 for the 5th place finish while Quijada scored another elimination and chipped up to 1.2 million.

5th place finisher, Ariel Eghi

Quijada took off his sunglasses and spent the next few minutes happily arranging his chips while Mario Lopez continued to take down pots.

In one hand, Lopez raised to 50,000 from the cutoff and Chadi Moustapha three-bet to 130,000 from the button.

Both players checked the [qs][Tc][5h] flop and checked again again when the [kh] came on the turn. The river brought a [7c] and a 265,000 bet from Lopez.

Moustapha thought for a few minutes and counted out a bet. When he leaned back to take a bite of his apple, Lopez called the clock and Moustapha folded.

There was some discussion about the time that Moustapha was taking to act at the final table.

"I guess it was too long," Moustapha said.

Chadi Moustapha (apple not pictured)

"It's fine if he's thinking but don't just start eating an apple in the middle of the hand," Lopez said.

"Yeah, I'm an old man, I don't have much time," Quijada said. "We need to hurry things up."

The next hand, Quijada jokingly called the clock on German Christiansen the second he got his cards.

The tournament has been going incredibly quickly --Day 3 lasted less than four levels-- but there's been a noticeable slowdown now that we've hit four players.

The money is getting big and while players are already guaranteed $61,140, they're battling for the coveted LAPT trophy and $155,730.

LAPT8 Uruguay: The final eight

Welcome back to the final day of LAPT8 Uruguay.

After three days of play, our initial field of 267 players has been hacked, sliced and shaved down to just eight players.

Our chip leader going back into play is Chadi Moustapha, who took large pots off of Mario Lopez and Eghi Ariel late yesterday to take the lead. This is Moustapha's second-consecutive LAPT final table after having final tabled LAPT8 Peru last stop.

Moustapha finished 2nd that stop and will be looking take it all the way today.

One player who wasn't able to get a second LAPT final table was Renata Teixeira. Teixeira finished 2nd in LAPT8 Chile earlier this year and became our final table bubble yesterday.

It was a quick day as the field shrunk from 24 to 8 players in just two-and-a-half levels.

Here are those final eight.

Seat 1: Ariel Eghi (Argentina) -- 423,000

View image

A 37-year old sales agent, Ariel Eghi started playing poker just five years ago with his friends. From there, he made the shift online and hasn't stopped playing since. Aside from poker, Eghi likes playing soccer and tennis and is hoping to get heads-up against Mario Lopez.

So far, Eghi has $83,000 in live-tournament earnings and this is his first LAPT cash.

Seat 2: German Christiansen (Argentina) -- 960,000

View image

This young, 26-year-old Argentinian has already made SuperNova Elite twice. Now a seasoned online pro, Christiansen started playing poker on PokerStrategy.com.

This is also Christiansen's first LAPT cash and he's doing it very close to his hometown of Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Seat 3: Hilario Quijada (Argentina) --513,000

View image

Another Argentinian, another first time LAPT casher. 68-year-old Hilario Quijada is a businessman in Argentina that would also like to get heads-up against Mario Lopez.

Seat 4: Ruben Barros (Argentina) -- 563,000

Ruben_Barros_LAPT8URuguay.jpeg

This 43-year-old Argentinian has only been playing poker for the past two years. While he started playing poker with friends, he's now pitted against some of the LAPT's best.

Seat 5: Patricio Rojas (Chile) -- 173,000

View image

Patricio Rojas one of two remaining LAPT champion in the field. Back in 2013, Rojas won LAPT6 Peru and nearly final tabled the event last stop.

Back in July, Rojas bubbled the LAPT8 Peru final table but has now squeaked by as one of the short stacks.

This is Rojas's second LAPT final table and he's hoping it'll turn into his second victory.

He too wants to get heads-up against Mario Lopez.

Seat 6: Mario Lopez (Argentina) -- 1,049,000

Mario_Lopez_LAPT8UruguayFT.jpeg

Dr. Mario Lopez, the man everyone wants to battle heads-up. Lopez had a large chip lead for a large portion of the tournament but dipped to second late in the day yesterday.

An medical doctor and businessman, this 37-year-old Argentinian has been playing poker for the past 10 years but has racking up lots of results recently.

Lopez won LAPT7 Chile last year and won the largest-ever Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event last month.

Now Lopez is looking to add another title to his resume.

Seat 7: Chadi Moustapha (Lebanon) -- 1,520,000

View image

The only non-South American final tablist, Lebanon's Chadi Moustapha is at his second LAPT final table in a row.

Moustapha finished 2nd at LAPT8 Peru this July and is looking for redemption today.

Our chip leader is an IT consultant from Dubai who's now living in Brazil. Aside from poker, Moustpaha enjoys travelling and reading.

Seat 8:Jorge Alberto Cantos (Argentina) -- 102,000

View image

Our tournament short stack, Jorge Alberto Cantos is a 56-year-old merchant from Neuquen, Argentina. Cantos has been playing poker since 2004 but is a recreational player who enjoys travelling and playing poker with his friends.

We don't know if Shaun Deeb was high when he won a WCOOP bracelet

Yes, let's forget the big smile he always wears. Let's just ignore the fact that when he gets deep into a game of OFC with the likes of Jason Mercier, the giggles and laughs can be heard across a crowded convention center ballroom. Let us pay no attention to the fact that his very name has become synonymous with crushing some waffles. Let's just turn our eyes away from all that and state the obvious:

We don't know if Shaun Deeb was high when he won a WCOOP bracelet.

For the record, we never meant to suggest he was. For the record, we have never seen Shaun Deeb indulge in any illegal drugs. For that matter, we're not sure we've ever seen him do anything illegal at all. That's why it was more than a little embarrassing when the mobile read-out of one of our more recent reports suggested otherwise.

shaundeeb_2015-Sep-22.jpg

Woops.

For the record, many of us here at the PokerStars Blog started writing headlines back when printing presses made sure the whole message was conveyed. We're still getting used to the idea that idea that robots may be trying to sabotage our efforts.

We did think about it some before publishing though. Give us some credit.

Some of the original headlines included:

Third bracelet for Deeb while rolling a fat...win to the bank

Third bracelet for Doob, no...we mean Deeb

Hot in WCOOP Deeb still smoking, bowls over competition

We finally settled on the one below, but it didn't work out.

ultra-High.jpg

So, for the record, we were nowhere near Deeb when he won this third WCOOP bracelet. We don't know what he was doing at the time. We don't know a thing about what condition his condition was in.

We humbly apologize to Deeb and anyone else who might have been offended by our robot overlords who truncate headlines.

Now, please pass the Cheetos.

It was always going to be about the Ultra High Roller today, won yesterday by Ben "Ben86" Tollerene. Here's how things look.

The world beyond WCOOP

This doesn't exist. Or at least is won't until next week.

Quote of the day

"I play a lot of "Destiny", drink beer, and grill. That's my life outside of poker."
-- Three time WCOOP champion Shaun Deeb.

Borderline irrelevant fact of the day

The win of $616,518.34 by Ben "Ben86" Tollerene was the single biggest first prize pay-out so far in WCOOP, but it was only good for second on the money list this year (so far at least). Top spot is still held by tobi123456.

tobi123456 = $654,500.00
Ben86 = $622,777.56

On to Day 18

There are just 19 WCOOP events for 2015, so it's time to start putting your support network in place for when it's all over early next week. Alternatively let the next six days be the sand in which to bury your head.

Find out everything there is left to know about the Championship on the WCOOP homepage, and good luck to everyone playing this weekend, whether in WCOOP or other events.

WCOOP 2015: TheBeeftank stampedes to victory in Event #46 ($215 NL Sunday Warm-Up SE)

With 12 players remaining in WCOOP Event #46, TheBeeftank (Netherlands) seized the lead and never looked back. No one could stop TheBeeftank, who nearly went wire-to-wire at the final table to win a WCOOP bracelet. Online poker nomad Daniel "deoxyribo" Strelitz put up the biggest fight. When heads-up commenced, TheBeeftank held over a 7-to-1 chip advantage over deoxyribo. Despite the daunting differential, deoxyribo never backed down and launched a courageous assault on TheBeeftank's ginormous stack. After a successful surgical attack, a determined deoxyribo almost pulled even in chips. However, that's as high as deoxyribo would get before TheBeeftank launched an unstoppable counterattack and delivered the crushing blow to become the newest WCOOP champion.

2015 WCOOP Event #46 $215 NL Sunday Warm-Up SE attracted 6,282 runners to this two-day event. They created a prize pool worth $1,256,400. The top 810 places paid out with $196,503.39 originally set aside to the champion.

Day 1 ended with 91 players left in the hunt for a WCOOP bracelet. Germany's KornmeiserX advanced to Day 2 as the leader 3.1M.

WCOOP Event #46 - End Day 1 Top 5 Chip Counts:
1. KornmeiserX (Germany) - 3,164,476
2. Fukuruku (Ukraine) - 2,427,237
3. vladislavius (Romania) - 2,022,959
4. TheBeeftank (Netherlands) - 1,961,340
5. PokerLoans1 (Argentina) - 1,808,277

The start of Day 2's action resembled the cliched title of a Hollywood action franchise: Fast and Furious. A dozen players were quickly liquidated within minutes of the opening bell.

With 27 to go Fukuruku (Ukraine) led with 5.8M. With 18 to go, Supa4real (Netherlands) had 6.7M and the lead. With 12 to go, TheBeeftank seized the lead with 8.4M. By the time only 11 were left, TheBeeftank passed the 10M mark.

With 10 left in the hunt, action went hand-for-hand. On a flop of [8c][7s][6h], entim check-raised all in with 4.6M. Zihuatanejo3 tanked for a while before calling with an open-ended straight draw and [As][9h] agianst's entim's [6c][5c] (bottom pair and smaller straight draw). The turn and river did not fill in any straights, and entim won the pot with two pair. Russia's Zihuatanejo3 bubbled off the final table in tenth place.

WCOOP15_E46_FTb.jpg

WCOOP Event #46 - Final Table Chip Counts:
Seat 1: thugmoneymkr (3,583,573)
Seat 2: entim (7,829,189)
Seat 3: Supa4real (8,865,042)
Seat 4: TheBeeftank (14,987,996)
Seat 5: leopeluca (1,292,740)
Seat 6: muka_gaming (6,044,665)
Seat 7: xXAlex1337Xx (8,959,808)
Seat 8: deoxyribo (7,361,354)
Seat 9: wywrotX (3,895,633)

The final table commenced during Level 42 with blinds at 80K/160K and a 20K ante. TheBeeftank sat atop the big stack hovering around 15M. Meanwhile, Leandro "leopeluca" Csome was the shorty with 1.3M. Everyone at the final table was seeking WCOOP bracelet #1, although Supa4real won a SCOOP in 2011. A couple of players came close to winning COOP titles: Argentina's leopeluca was once a runner-up in a 2014 SCOOP, and thugmoneymkr was a runner up back in 2006 (losing to legendary Jason Strasser). Also sitting at the final table was poker nomad Daniel "deoxyribo" Strelitz, who had over $1.2M in career earnings.

THE REVENGE OF VERA GEMINI: leopeluca eliminated in 9th place

Short-stacked leopeluca was the first player to bow out at the final table. leopeluca moved all-in for 892,740 with [Js][Jd] and Supa4real called from the big blind with [7d][7s]. The board ran out [Ac][Ks][8s][7h][6s]. Supa4real turned a set of sevens to take the lead. Jacks were cracked and leopeluca busted in ninth place, which paid out $10,051.20.

TATTOO VAMPIRE: wywrotX eliminated in 8th place

Ambushed by Aces. xXAlex1337Xx opened to 401,355, wywrotX bombed it all-in for 2,045,383 with [Ac][Jd], and xXAlex1337Xx insta-called with [As][Ad]. The board ran out [Kd][Qs][8s][5c][2d]. Although wywrotX flopped a Broadway draw, the turn and river did not help. xXAlex1337Xx's pocket Aces held up to win the pot. For an eighth-place finish, Canada's wywrotX earned $15,705.00.

EXTRA TERRESTRIAL INTELLIGENCE: entim eliminated in 7th place

Monster stack vs. baby stack. TheBeeftank min-raised to 420,000, entim bombed it all-in for 2,229,010, and TheBeeftank called. TheBeeftank led with [Ts][Tc] against entim's [9d][9s]. The board ran out [Qs][Js][6s][Qh][Ks]. Both players rivered a four-flush, but entim lost to TheBeeftank's higher flush. For a seventh place finish, entim won $28,269.00.

With six remaining, TheBeeftank held 22.8M, followed by Supa4real's 15.3M, xXAlex1337Xx's 8.8M, and deoxyribo's 7.2M. The two shorties held approximately 4.2M each: muka_gaming and thugmoneymkr.

MORNING FINAL: muka_gaming eliminated in 6th place

And the rich got richer... TheBeeftank opened to 630,000, muka_gaming shoved for 5,481,860 with [Kc][Qs], and TheBeeftank called with [Ah][Jh]. The board ran out [7c][6d][3c][Tc][As]. TheBeeftank led all the way but rivered a pair of Aces. For a sixth-place finish, muka_gaming took home $40,833.00.

SINFUL LOVE: xXAlex1337Xx eliminated in 5th place

On the next hand... TheBeeftank claimed another victim. TheBeeftank opened to 630,000, xXAlex1337Xx bombed it all-in for 2,997,531 with [Ah][8s], and TheBeeftank called with [Ad][9d]. Ouch.... xXAlex1337Xx was dominated and to complicate matters, TheBeeftank flopped a pair of nines and rivered Aces up. The board ran out [Qh][9s][7h][4c][Ac]. TheBeeftank won the pot with two pair. Germany's xXAlex1337Xx finished the tournament in 5th place and received $53,397.00.

DEBBIE DENISE: Supa4real eliminated in 4th place

Two hands later, we saw a third bustout in a mere four hands. The only difference was that this hand did not involved Godzilla-stacked TheBeeftank... deoxyribo opened to 624,000, Supa4real shoved for 6,472,452, and deoxyribo called. Supa4real led with [Ad][Jd] against deoxyribo's [Ks][Qs]. Alas, a King on the flop sunk Supa4real's WCOOP aspirations. The board finished up [Kd][9c][3s][7h][Tc]. Supa4real never improved and hit the virtual rail in fourth place, which paid out $70,986.60.

DEAL

With three remaining, action was paused to discuss a deal. TheBeeftank had a significant amount of chips with 42.5M, which was more than twice as many as the combination of deoxyribo (10.9M) and thugmoneymkr (9.3M). Any deal had to leave $20,000 on the table for first place. The ICM numbers were floated: TheBeeftank $164,120.03, deoxyribo $133,095.70, and thugmoneymkr $129,122.80. Initially, thugmoneymkr was seeking 130K flat, but after both players scoffed at giving up any more money, thugmoneymkr agreed on the original terms. A deal was set and play resumed.

TENDERLOIN: thugmoneymkr eliminated in 3rd place

The two smaller stacks rumbled and thugmoneymkr came from behind to win an 18.3M pot with [Ah][2h] against deoxyribo's [5d][5h]. Thinking he had enough ammo to survive a confrontation, thugmoneymkr rumbled with TheBeeftank... thugmoneymkr opened to 765,000, TheBeeftank bumped it up to 2M, thugmoneymkr shoved for 18,300,362 with [7c][6c], and TheBeeftank called with [Th][Td]. The board ran out [Qs][Tc][5c][5d][8h]. Although thugmoneymkr flopped a flush draw, his hand never improved. TheBeeftank flopped a set and turned a boat to win the pot. For a third-place finish, thugmoneymkr took home $129,122.80.

HEADS-UP: TheBeeftank (Netherlands) vs. deoxyribo (Canada)
Seat 4: TheBeeftank (54,893,365)
Seat 8: deoxyribo (7,926,635)

TheBeeftank held a tremendous lead. However, deoxyribo was not about to give up so easily and doubled up early on to win a pot worth almost 18M when [Ah][5c] held up against TheBeeftank's [Kd][Qs].

Then deoxyribo went on a quick rush to win back-to-back pots. The first one was almost 12M and the second pot was 15.3M. TheBeeftank's lead was trimmed and deoxyribo nearly pulled even (31.9 to 30.8M). TheBeeftank swiftly counterattacked to win four out of the next five hands to increased his lead 40M to 22.7M. After TheBeeftank dragged a 10M pot, that marked the beginning of the end for deoxyribo. In 13 hands, it was all over.

(DON'T FEAR) THE REAPER: deoxyribo eliminated in 2nd place; TheBeeftank binks WCOOP Event #46

On the final hand... deoxyribo moved all-in for 12,629,176 with a formidble [Ad][5s] and TheBeeftank called with [Ks][Qs]. The board ran out [Jc][3h][2h][Kd][Qh]. TheBeeftank turned a pair of Kings and rivered two pair to win the pot. Even though deoxyribo flopped a Wheel draw, it never materialized. Alas, deoxyribo failed to improve and busted in second place.

For a gritty runner-up performance, which included overcoming connectivity issues, deoxyribo earned $133,095.70.

Congrats to TheBeeftank for winning WCOOP Event #46. First place paid out $184,120.03.

LAPT8 Uruguay: Teixeira bubbles, Moustapha leads final table

Our final table is set.

Brazil's Renata Teixeira --who finished 2nd in LAPT8 Chile earlier this year-- won't be making another final table here in Uruguay.

In the final hand of the day, a short-stacked Teixeira moved all-in for 102,000 from middle position and German Christiansen called from the big blind.

Teixeira tabled [5c][5d] and was flipping for her tournament life after Christiansen showed [qh][Td].

The flop came [as][ad][jh] to give Christiansen a few more outs and then he paired his queen when the [qs] came on the turn.

Renata_Teixeira_Bubble.jpeg

Renata Teixeira, sad she won't make another final table

A [7h] sealed Teixeira's fate and she was eliminated in 9th.

Teixeira won $16,240 but missed out on another LAPT final table.

Leading the final eight into the final table is Chadi Moustapha, with 1.52 million. Moustapha finished Day 1 with the chip lead but then Mario Lopez took it over and held on to it until the penultimate level of the day.

It was the only elimination-less level we've had in the last two days.

It was far from quiet though as Moustapha took giant pots off of Lopez and Ariel Eghi to take the lead.

Lopez was the first to lose a chunk to Moustapha.

In a battle of the blinds, Moustapha and Lopez were faced with a raised pot on a [7d][6s][Ac] flop.
Lopez bet from the small blind and Moustapha called.

A [4c] came on the turn and Lopez bet 54,000. Moustapha thought for a few moments and called. The river brought a [kc] and Lopez bet again. This time he put out a pile of chips worth 128,000.

Moustapha leaned back in his chair and grabbed his bottle of water.

"You guys can go home," Moustapha said. "This is going to take a while."

Moustapha thought for some time and counted the bet out from his stack.

"I should call," he added.

Then he did.

Moustapha called and Lopez was reluctant to show his hand. Lopez turned over a single [Ts] and Moustapha took down the pot with [ad][Tc].

A few minutes later, Ruben Barros raised to 28,000 from middle position and Lopez called from the cutoff. Moustapha called from the big blind and Ariel Eghi did the same from big blind.

The flop came [5d][4s][6c] and Lopez bet 43,000 when checked to. Moustapha raised to 108,000 and Eghi called. Barros and Lopez folded and an [ad] came on the turn.

Both players checked and the [7s] completed the board.

Eghi bet 175,000 and after some thought, Moustapha moved all-in.

Ariel Eghi

Eghi leaned back in his chair and turned away from the table. He mumbled something to himself and then looked at his stack, Moustapha had him covered.

After a few minutes of deliberation, Eghi folded and Moustapha took down the pot.

The tournament ticked into the next level and we lost Renata Teixeira in the first hand of level 22.

Players celebrated and will return tomorrow at noon to play down to a champion.
