Awesome win for "Dhr. Awesome" in 2/16/16 Super Tuesday

When you're thinking about choosing a PokerStars screen name, and you decide that it's a good idea to include the word "awesome" in your name, then are setting yourself some pretty big expectations to live up to.

Awesome is not just good. It's not just great. It's just AWESOME!

It takes something pretty special to be awesome, but today "Dhr. Awesome" proved why his online moniker is an appropriate one.

Back in 2014, Dhr. Awesome won his first Super Tuesday title, but today the Dutch player did it again, winning Super Tuesday title number two and $85,811.51 in prize money which is an "awesome" achievement indeed.

Today's $1,100 Super Tuesday attracted a field of 481 players which meant a $481,000 prize pool was formed. Andre Akkari was the lone Team PokerStars Pro in the field but he was out early and well short of the money for the top 54 players.

Just two weeks ago Poland's Sick Pastorr won a TCOOP for over $105,000 but such are the swings of the game, today Sick Pastorr would become the unlucky bubble, missing the $2,405 min-cash by the narrowest of margins.

After close to nine hours of play, the final table loomed, but in an interesting twist to the FT bubble, Kory "s00tedj0kers" Kilpatrick was having some major internet connectivity issues.

s00tedj0kers has timed out while disconnected
s00tedj0kers: folds
Corlusion said, "lol thats so brutal"
Corlusion said, "poor guy"

Moments earlier, s00tedj0kers was spotted in the chat box saying that he'd never had internet problems before, so it was unfortunate timing that it was happening on the verge of the Super Tuesday final table. As his stack blinded down to less than ten big blinds, s00tedj0kers reconnected, seemingly at a different location:

s00tedj0kers said, "raging"
Corlusion: folds
Corlusion said, "cannot begin to imagine"
s00tedj0kers said, "almost just killed 3 animals with my car"

On one of s00tedj0kers' first hands back, he shoved jack-eight from the small blind and was called by the king-eight of former SCOOP winner mrAndreeew. s00tedj0kers looked gone, but four spades on board gave him a flush to start the comeback.

s00tedj0kers would sneak through to the final table after a big clash went down on the other table. RigasDinamo would shove with ace-queen but "Dhr. Awesome" woke up in the big blind with pocket aces! The board bricked out to eliminate RigasDinamo in tenth place as our final table was set:

Final Table Lineup
Seat 1: Kory "s00tedj0kers" Kilpatrick (101,492 in chips)
Seat 2: mrAndreeew (116,035 in chips)
Seat 3: NEED100KFAST (569,338 in chips)
Seat 4: fred_volpe (113,894 in chips)
Seat 5: Fred_Brink (204,821 in chips)
Seat 6: SFisch4 (133,382 in chips)
Seat 7: Corey "Corlusion" Kempson (202,195 in chips)
Seat 8: Dhr. Awesome (725,943 in chips)
Seat 9: Zachary "zackmorris99" Morris (237,900 in chips)

fred_volpe would find an early double up with pocket aces against the pocket queens of the chip leader, Dhr. Awesome, but the luck quickly turned when Corey "Corlusion" Kempson jagged a fortunate double with ace-queen against fred_volpe's ace-king. That hand would leave fred_volpe crippled, and despite finding one double up, his tournament was brought to an end shortly after. fred_volpe was all in with [ad][ts] but Dhr. Awesome had that bettered with [as][kh] as the board was spread [7s][Ac][5d][6h][9h]. fred_volpe is a former Super Tuesday runner up back in 2010, but this time would have to settle for ninth place for $7,984.60 in prize money.

Zachary "zackmorris99" Morris would be next to fall. zackmorris99 was down to under ten big blinds when Dhr. Awesome shoved from the small blind. zackmorris99 looked at [as][9d] in the big blind and made the call as Dhr. Awesome showed live cards with [7s][ts]. The board fell [8s][6h][4s][5s][Kc] which delivered a flush for Dhr. Awesome to leave zackmorris99 to depart in eighth place for $10,822.50.

Fred_Brink was arguably the most decorated player at the final table as a former WCOOP champ and a Sunday Million winner back in 2008. However Fred_Brink's Super Tuesday tournament would come to an end in seventh place. Fred_Brink opened with a raise under the gun with [jd][jh] and then called all in when Corlusion shoved [as][kd]. The race was on but it would be Corlusion who caught a pair on the board of [8s][Ah][2c][6h][Ts]. Fred_Brink picked up $15,632.50 for seventh place.

mrAndreeew was pretty unlucky not to land a double up through Corlusion after flopping a set of nines against ace-king. The turn and river brought a straight on board and the two chopped it up.

The luck continued with the Aussie who landed a huge double up two hands later. Corlusion opened with a raise and Dhr. Awesome three-bet as the chip leaders collided. Corlusion four-bet and Dhr. Awesome five-bet jammed with pocket jacks but the seven-figure pot, and the chip lead, would be shipped to Corlusion with his pocket kings.

With a stack of about 12 big blinds, mrAndreeew moved all in from the cutoff with [ac][9d] but Corlusion woke up with [as][ks] in the big blind and made the call. The board ran out [2h][Js][8c][7c][8s] and that would be enough to remove mrAndreeew in sixth place for a $20,442.50 score.

SFisch4 landed a double up with an ace-high flush, before s00tedj0kers defended the big blind with a suited queen-four and ended up with a full house to double through Corlusion.

Things were pretty tight five-handed until NEED100KFAST was felted. NEED100KFAST entered the final table as one of the chip leaders, but hadn't been heavily involved before a big clash with s00tedj0kers. NEED100KFAST had raised under the gun with [ad][ts] and bet the flop before checking the turn to see a final board of [9c][3c][8d][4d][3h]. s00tedj0kers was in the big blind and he decided to moved all in to put NEED100KFAST to a huge decision. With just an ace kicker to the pair on board, NEED100KFAST decided to call it off but s00tedj0kers tabled [9s][6s] for two pair with nines and threes. A brave call ended in elimination for NEED100KFAST who picked up $26,936 for fifth place.

Dhr. Awesome and Corlusion continued to tangle with Dhr. Awesome getting a double up with a flush, before the Dutch player had some luck to eliminate Canada's SFisch4.

Dhr. Awesome raised under the gun with [7s][7c] and then made the call when SFisch4 moved all in. SFisch4 showed up with [8s][8h] for a better pair but got very unlucky when the board ran out [Jd][7d][Td][Jh][Ad]. A full house for Dhr. Awesome left SFisch4 to take home $38,480 for fourth place.

s00tedj0kers picked up a nice pot with pocket aces as the disconnection recovery continued, but a huge all-in clash with Dhr. Awesome would end the comeback run. There were over 1.2 million chips in the middle preflop when Dhr. Awesome shoved [ad][jh] and s00tedj0kers made the call with [9d][9h]. The board ran out [3c][4s][Js][Jc][6c] to hit Dhr. Awesome twice and leave s00tedj0kers to depart in third place. That was worth an impressive $50,505 which should afford him a new internet provider!

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 7: Corlusion (718,272 in chips)
Seat 8: Dhr. Awesome (1,686,728 in chips)

Corlusion was able to chip away at the deficit to pull back to virtually even stacks before throwing up the idea of a deal.

Corlusion said, "If you're willing to look at numbers lmk and we can take a look"
Dhr. Awesome said, "maybe in a bit"
Dhr. Awesome said, "we'll play for 10k left"

Dhr. Awesome gave it some thought and eventually the two paused the clock and nutted out the details based on ICM and leaving $10,000 and the title in the middle to play for.

When play resumed it was Dhr. Awesome who grabbed the first major pot of the heads-up contest with some creative play. After calling preflop with [5s][2s], Dhr. Awesome check-raised the flop with a bare gutshot straight draw. Corlusion made the call but Dhr. Awesome spiked the gutterball on the turn. Dhr. Awesome extracted two more streets of value to jump out to a near four-to-one chip lead.

A flush on the very next hand for Dhr. Awesome, left Corlusion on the ropes. Corlusion landed a double up with ace-king against ace-five and was winning more than a fair share of pots to try and claw back into the match but the final pot would go to Dhr. Awesome in what was ultimately a bit of a cooler.

In a limped pot, Dhr. Awesome bet the flop and turn in position before firing a third bullet on the river on the board of [2d][Jc][Ts][7c][Kc]. It was then that Corlusion decided to check-raise all in with [8s][9h] for the turned straight, but Dhr. Awesome held [5c][4c] for the flush to claim the pot and the title!

Congratulations to Corey "Corlusion" Kempson who takes home a post-deal amount of $75,034.89, which is about a bazillion Aussie dollars, but on this occasion the title goes to the Netherlands as Dhr. Awesome pockets $85,811.51 in prize money!
