12:30pm: Schemion wakes up with aces
Level 9 - Blinds 400/800 (ante 100)

Speaking of Ole Schemion and Fabian Quoss playing into the wee hours last night (see below), Schemion is also here and on one of the first hands of Day 2 happily picked up pocket aces versus Andrea Cortellazzi's pocket queens. A ten-high runout enabled Schemion to enjoy an early double-up to start his day.

That'll wake a person up. Schemion's table is likely on the alert as well now that he's suddenly up around 60,000 and an average stack. --MH

12:25pm: The TV table
Level 9 - Blinds 4000/800 (ante 100)

If you notice a lack of updates about Vanessa Selbst, Dominik Nitsche, Patrik Antonius, Justin Bonomo, Martins Adeniya or Fabrice Soulier over the first couple of levels there's a very good reason for that.

That table has been picked as the first feature table of the day and from today, for the first time ever, EPT Live is broadcasting cards-up coverage from Day 2 of the main event.

Below is the table in all it's glory. Eva Jiretorn is one of more than 120 players who won their way to this event via Spin and Go's on PokerStars.

12:11pm: Rise and shine, Fabian
Level 9 - Blinds 400/800 (ante 100)

Today's redraw has ended up creating a formidable collection of talent at Table 24, with Ismael Bojang, Fabian Quoss, Gabriel Nassif, Oliver Price, and Lex Veldhuis all sitting side-by-side in a row to take up more than half the table.

Quoss looked like he just stifled a yawn before an early hand was dealt, something for which he can be forgiven. After all, he and Ole Schemion were up after 5:30am playing the not-so-accurately titled Single Day High Roller last night, with those two slated to finish out the tournament later tonight.

Price asked Quoss about how things ended last night and he filled in the details. "Couldn't sleep right away when I got back," he added, noting how he's only going on a few hours of rest today.

Quoss and Schemion will be back at it at 9pm tonight, which means both will be able to play to the end of Day 2 before they get back at it. --MH

12:10pm: Newbies
Level 9 - Blinds 4000/800 (ante 100)

Here's the complete list of newbies for today. That's another 24 players, so I think that puts us at 1,091. That will still need to be confirmed.

Maximilian Hornung, Alan Rocamora Garcia, Christian Mosbach, Massimiliano Patroncini, Anatoly Gurtovoy, Nils Maibaum, Ilan Boujenah, Erik Seidel, Igor Kurganov, Ole Schemion, Alain Daien, Hector Alvarez Rodriguez, Payam Anskrina, Ramin Hajiyev, Mehmet Tezol, Pierre Ailment, Ivan Luca, Yingui Li, Salman Behbehani, Murad Akhundov, Dermot Blain, Bryn Kenney, John Juanda and Diego Zeiter. --HS

12:10pm: Two rooms
Level 9 - Blinds 4000/800 (ante 100)

So many players entered this event that play today - for now anyway - is spread across two rooms. There are 11 tables in use in what's more commonly the cash game area. We suspect these will be the tables that get broken first.

Among the big names currently plying their trade in this area are Yaxi Zhu, Galle Baumann, Nacho Barbero, Matas Cimbolas, Stephen Chidwick and Ole Schemion.

The latter two are sat side by side with Chidwick having position. Schemion only entered the event this morning as he's been too busy winning super high rollers (http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/en/blog/tournaments/ept/2016/ept12-grand-final-schemion-scythes-throu-161399.shtml) and crushing one day €50,000 single-day high rollers (http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/en/blog/tournaments/ept/2016/ept12-grand-final-50000-single-day-high--161415.shtml) to have time to do anything else. -- NW

12:02pm: Day 2 begins
Level 9 - Blinds 400/800 (ante 100)

Players have filled the spacious tournament room here at the Sporting Club and the first of six Day 2 levels is now under way. --MH

11:35am: How many more?
Level 9: Blinds 400/800 (ante 100)

It's Day 2 of the €5,000 main event at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final. Over the previous two days, 1,067 players have registered, making this the largest Grand Final main event in history.

But registration only closes just before play today, so there will likely be a few more joining the fray.

Sunday Million: DaGoddfather, Part II! DaGoddfather wins second Sunday Million title

DaGoddfather won the Sunday Million for a second time since August 2011. Canada's DaGoddfather now joins the elite group of multiple Sunday Million champs in the exclusive Two-Timer Club.

Sequels often fail to live up to their original film manifestation, however, there's one sequel that many critics and fans alike universally agree is far superior to its original: The Godfather, Part II. Francis Ford Coppola jumped around in time to tell the story of ruthless Michael Corleone running his family's new business ventures in Nevada as casino owners, while juxtaposed with a prequel or origin story of his father Vito Corleone's early days as a cool-talking immigrant in NYC and his own violent rise to power in Little Italy before eventually becoming the feared and respected Godfather.

On the surface, The Godfather trilogy of films (based on novels by Mario Puzo) is about the quest for respectability in a highly-competitive world. No wonder the film goes hand-in-hand with tournament poker. Very few poker players get a chance to relive one of their finest shining moments on the felt. Only a handful of players can say they've won the Sunday Million... and even a smaller number can boast they've won it at least twice. You can add another name, DaGoddfather, to that prestigious list with membership in the Two-Timer Club. Fittingly enough, DaGoddfather returned with a vengeance and burst back into the Sunday Million's winner's circle for a second time in the last five years.

This installment of $215 buy-in The Sunday Million attracted 5,401 runners. They created a prize pool worth $1,080,200.00. The top 810 places got a cut of the prize money, with $168,945.98 originally set aside to the champion.

Elky_at_EPT_GrandFinal.jpg

Elky sporting his "stash" at the EPT Grand Final

The PokerStars EPT Grand Final is in full swing at the Monte-Carlo Casino in Monaco. Team PokerStars Pro Elky played in several of the side events and he's still alive in the Main Event. He played in the opening flight 1A on Saturday and advanced to Day 2 with a below average stack. On Sunday, he fired up Twitch and webcast his deep run in the Sunday Million. In the vernacular of Elky, he was running "so sick" until he got sidetracked and busted in 240th place. ElkY shoved with [7s] [7c] on the button, but got ambushed in the small blind by fuddebuf's [8c][8s]. One moment, it seemed like Elky was on a fast-track to the final table and the next, he was dunzo in 240th place. At least he cashed and he's still alive in the EPT Grand Final Main Event.

With 27 to go, Poland's FloweerBoy led with over 4M. When action dwindled down to the final two tables, Canada's DaGoddfather sat at the head of the table with 6M and a comfortable spot in the lead. With 11 remaining, DaGoddfather passed the 10M mark and battled with kosilkO for the top slot. DaGoddfather managed to retain the lead by the time Austria's snackerdelux bubbled off the final table in tenth place after failing to double up with [As][Jh] against alexandraK86's [Ac][Kd].

SM_5.1.16_FTv.jpg
5/1/16 Sunday Million - Final Table Chip Counts:
Seat 1: BlindRazorJJ (3,437,906)
Seat 2: FloweerBoy (4,326,558
Seat 3: DaGoddfather (10,732,725)
Seat 4: KIngAntsi (5,321,166)
Seat 5: kosilkO (9,826,308)
Seat 6: ha0444 (2,395,775)
Seat 7: alexandraK86 (4,427,032)
Seat 8: Canno747 (8,673,111)
Seat 9: whollyflush (4,869,419)

The final table for the Sunday Milly commenced during Level 35 with blinds at 80K/160K and a 16K ante. Big dog DaGoddfather held the only stack over 10M, but kosilkO was not far behind with 9.8M. Meanwhile, ha0444 was the proverbial shorty with 2.3M.

DaGoddfather sought out a second Sunday Million crown. Back in August of 2011, DaGoddfather navigated a slightly larger Milly field to win nearly $164K for his victory (as part of a three-way deal). Also, FloweerBoy final tabled a SCOOP event in 2012 and bubbled a SCOOP final table in 2015, yet was still seeking a first-ever Sunday Million win. The narrative boiled down tot his: would DaGoddfather win a second Sunday Milly crown? Or will one of the other eight players get a chance to rub out DaGoddfather before he gunned them down first?

DEAD FLOWERS: FloweerBoy eliminated in 9th place

The final table kicked off with a bang because FloweerBoy was not afraid to throw down early on. FloweerBoy got crippled with [Ad][Td] against BlindRazorJJ's [Th][Ts]. BlindRazorJJ flopped a set and the flowers were all but wilted when BlindRazorJJ won a 9.3M pot.

FloweerBoy was barely left with 100K and busted on the next hand after making a final stand with [9c][5s] in a multi-way pot versus ha0444 and kosilkO. Instead of checking it down to the river, on a flop of [Kh][Jd][7h], kosilkO check-called an all-in bet from ha0444 for 1,783,331. kosilkO [Ks][6h] flopped top pair, but ha0444 woke up with [As][Ad]. The turn was the [Td] and the river was the [Qs]. ha0444's Aces held up but only after rivering a Broadway straight to win both the main pot and side pot. The best kosilkO could do was a pair of Kings, which was a futile effort. FloweerBoy rivered a King-high straight but lost to ha0444's Broadway straight. FloweerBoy became the first player to exit the final table. Ninth place paid out $8,641.60.

BROWN SUGAR: kosilkO eliminated in 8th place

After getting caught up in the fracas as collateral damage between FloweerBoy and DaGoddfather, a wounded kosilkO was a short stack looking to double up. Big-stacked bully DaGoddfather min-raised to 522,000 and kosilkO called from the big blind. The flop was [Ac][Qs][7c]. kosilkO check-called a 423K bet from DaGoddfather. The turn was the [Kd], and kosilkO check-called a 1,010,000 bet from DaGoddfather. The [7d] fell on the river. kosilkO checked, DaGoddfather bet 4M, and kosilkO called all-in for 3,756,533.

DaGoddfather: [As][Qc]
kosilkO: [Ah][Th]

DaGoddfather won the pot with a flopped two pair -- Aces and Queens. kosilkO lost with a worst two pair (Aces and sevens). For an eighth-place finish, kosilkO took home $13,502.50. Belarus' kosilkO got whacked by DaGoddfather.

With seven remaining, DaGoddfather held a firm grip on the lead with 21.6M, or 3x than his closest opponent.

SWAY: KIngAntsi eliminated in 7th place

Big-stack bully DaGoddfather opened to 514,000, KIngAntsi bombed it all-in for 5,714,242, and DaGoddfather snap-called with [Ad][Kh]. KIngAntsi was in trouble with a dominated [Ac][8c]. Although KIngAntsi picked up a nut-flush draw on the flop with two clubs, the DaGoddfather dodged a few bullets when the board finished up [Ks][Qc][7c][6s][6h]. No clubs for KIngAntsi who never improved. DaGoddfather hit the flop with Big Slick and won the pot with two pair -- Kings and sixes. KIngAntsi got whacked by DaGoddfather and busted in seventh place, which paid out $24,304.50.

MOONLIGHT MILE: ha0444 eliminated in 6th place

Six-handed did not last very long, but surprisingly enough, DaGoddfather was not involved in this particular clipping. Two of the shorties rumbled.... ha0444 open-shoved for 4,034,675 with [Qd][9c], alexandraK86 re-shoved for 6,027,564 with [6s][6h], but no one else wanted to join in on the rumpus. Heads-up and ha0444 desperately hoping to win a race. The flop was [Ah][Kc][Jd] and ha0444 picked up a Broadway straight draw, but the turn was the [8d] and the river was the [4h]. alexandraK86 faded a straight draw and dragged the pot with a pair of sixes. Lebanon's ha0444 whiffed on a straight and never improved. ha0444 was dunzo in sixth place, which paid out $35,106.50.

With five remaining... DaGoddfather led with 23.2M, followed by alexandraK86 (10.5M), BlindRazorJJ (8.1M), whollyflush (7.2M), and Canno747 (4.8M).

I GOT THE BLUES: alexandraK86 eliminated in 5th place

Short-stacked Swede alexandraK86 attempted to double up and open-shoved for 3,720,359. However, whollyflush snap-called with [Qd][Jd] against alexandraK86's [4h][4s]. Coin flip. Race. Another tournament life at stake. The flop was a brutal one for alexandraK86 because whollyflush flopped top two. The turn was a blank and the river was the [Qc], which filled in an unnecessary full house for whollyflush. alexandraK86 finished up with two pair -- Queens and fours -- but it fell short of the mark. Sweden's alexandraK86 bailed in fifth place, which paid out $45,908.50.

With four to go, whollyflush chipped with to 18.7M or second overall behind DaGoddfather's 24.4M. At that juncture, it appeared that whollyflush was the only player left who might have enough ammo to challenge DaGoddfather.

YOU GOTTA MOVE: Canno747 eliminated in 4th place

Canno747 was all over the final table and should have busted a couple of times, but somehow always managed to spring back to life. If Canno747's spirit animal was a cat, it must've been on its ninth life because it failed to thwart an execution order from DaGoddfather. The big-stacked Don opened to 1,023,000, Canno747 bombed it all-in for 6,047,960, and DaGoddfather called with [As][Qs]. Canno747 was slightly ahead with [7h][7c], but Canno747 lost the race on the flop. The board finished up [Qc][6c][6s][2s][Kd] and DaGoddfather flopped Aces up to win the pot with a better two pair. For a fourth-place finish, Canno747 earned $61,031.30. And yes, DaGoddfather whacked another victim.

CAN'T YOU HEAR ME KNOCKING: BlindRazorJJ eliminated in 3rd place

Three-handed lasted three hands, but whollyflush was the one who took charge of the liquidation of the third place player. The Brit whollyflush shoved for 14,105,075 and BlindRazorJJ called all-in for 3,998,244. BlindRazorJJ attempted a final stand with [Kh][5c], but failed to gun down whollyflush's [Ad][Tc]. Although neither player improved by the river, whollyflush won the pot with a better Ace-kicker when the board finished up [Qc][9s][7h][Qd][Jh]. BlindRazorJJ failed to double up and was sent to the virtual rail in third place, which paid out $88,954.47.

HEADS-UP: DaGoddfather (Canada) vs. whollyflush (U.K.)
Seat 3: DaGoddfather (35,256,681)
Seat 9: whollyflush (18,753,319)

Only one player stood in DaGoddfather's way of winning a second Sunday Million. DaGoddfather appeared in charge with a 2-1 edge. Alas, whollyflush was not about to roll over and get flushed down the toilet so easily.

MIDNIGHT RAMBLER: whollyflush eliminated in 2nd place; DaGoddfather binks second career Sunday Million

The solid heads-up bout lasted nearly 38 minutes. When it appeared whollyflush gained a scintilla of momentum and might overtake DaGoddfather, whollyflush brought up the notion of discussing  a money deal. DaGoddfather quashed any idea of chopping up the money with a firm, "No deal." Once whollyflush knew it was going to be a fight to the death, whollyflush quickly retreated into a defensive stance. The DaGoddfather's stack incurred a few hits early on, but before whollyflush got close to evening up the score, DaGoddfather launched a swift counter-attack to regain lost ground.

After their initial spat, it seemed as though the two reached a quagmire with whollyflush unable to get any traction going, yet DaGoddfather unable to deliver the fatal knockout blow. Eventually, time and luck ran out for whollyflush and the DaGoddfather neutralized another enemy. As Hyman Roth eloquently stated to Michael Corleone in The Godfather, Part II, "This is the business we have chosen."

On the final hand, a raising war broke out. The skirmish quickly escalated, but initiated by whollyflush, who opened to 1.72M. DaGoddfather didn't mess around and shoved for 38,676,341, and whollyflush decided to rumble and called all-in for 13,453,659. Although whollyflush took a pocket pair into a gun fight, whollyflush was in deep trouble with [4d][4h] against DaGoddfather's superior [9h][9s]. The board finished up [7d][5c][5s][7h][Th] and DaGoddfather' won with a better two pair. Ho hum, whollyflush sleeps with the fishes. Cue "The Godfather" theme song by Nino Rota.

The U.K.'s whollyflush busted in second place, which paid out an impressive $125,843.30 for a gritty runner-up performance.

First place in the first Sunday Million of May 2016 paid out $168,945.98. Congrats to Canada's DaGoddfather, who has now won multiple Sunday Millions. Welcome to the Two-Timer Club!

Sunday Warm-Up: dlanger610 turns the tables after two-way chop earning $58K

With all eyes on collecting Euros in Monaco and Monte Carlo the online presence for the Sunday Majors was lighter than usual. Or perhaps the players are saving their energy and sanity for the start of the 55 event (times three buy-in levels) 2016 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) next week. This week's $400,000 guarantee Sunday Warm-Up came two entries short of the requisite amount as 1,998 players hunted for the $64K sitting up top. After a shade under ten hours of play, a two-way chop, and some late-game magic, dlanger610 would earn $58,370.91 for the victory

Read on below for dlanger610's road to a Sunday Warm-Up win.

Thanks to the lighter population of the Sunday Warm-Up it would only take a little more than seven hours to reach the final two tables as SCOOP champ Sobizzle21 and World Championship of Online Poker champ Shyam "G's zee" Srinivasan would come up short in this edition finishing in 25th and 20th place ($1,360.00) respectively.

Another SCOOP watch holder (2013 Event #36-H), Anthony "wwwBTHEREcom" Gregg, would make it to final two tables, but not the spotlights after blackaces93's pocket tens told Gregg's ace-five it was time to leave in 16th place ($1,600.00).

anthony_gregg_SundayWarm.jpg

Anthony "wwwBTHEREcom" Gregg

Five minutes and two more eliminations later, 13 players would take a break after eight hours of play. Among those remaining Vitorbrasil and previously mentioned blackaces93 have been to the Sunday Warm-Up final table a couple of times but never going home with the gold.

Halfway through the hour Vitorbrasil's attempt at another Sunday Warm-Up final table would end in 11th place ($3,000.00) kicking off hand-for-hand play.

While Vitorbrasil would not move on, blackaces93 would thanks to this hand. With the blinds at 40K/80K ante 8K hello_totti would min-raise from the cutoff as agnik80 shoved for 1.14 million holding pocket nines [9h][9s]. Holding pocket queens [Qs][Qc] hello_totti would quickly call and make it through the [Js] [Kh] [Ad] [3h] [7h] board to start up the final table below:

SundayWarmUp_050116.jpg

Seat 1: blackaces93 (2706188 in chips)
Seat 2: lipeabruzzi (1927687 in chips)
Seat 3: jbugueno (2206459 in chips)
Seat 4: SeeYouAnte18 (400885 in chips)
Seat 5: hello_totti (5131990 in chips)
Seat 6: 3WhiteTigers (1748527 in chips)
Seat 7: OneH1tWonder (1608836 in chips)
Seat 8: dlanger610 (2898402 in chips)
Seat 9: Kzzon (1351026 in chips)

With the shortened field it was not unusual to see an all-in on the first hand of final table play. But, SeeYouAnte18 would chop up the pot with jbugueno. That would earn SeeYouAnte18 a few hands of reprieve but the shortstack would need to gamble again, this time pushing 464,885 over a min-raise by lipeabruzzi with pocket nines [9s][9c]. Decent hand for such a position, but lipeabruzzi's kings [Kd][Kc] were better on the [Ac] [3c] [Qc] [3s] [Qh] board ending SeeYouAnte18's tournament in ninth place ($3,800.00).

The fast action did not stop there as another pre-flop all-in started up. With the blinds holding at 40K/80K ante 8K dlanger610 would raise to 175K as blackaces93 shoved for 2.59 million from the small blind. Blackaces93 held the hand of monster magnets late in this tournament flipping up pocket nines [9c][9d] which attracted dlanger610's aces [As][Ah]. A clean [Qs] [Qh] [3s] [8s] [6s] sheet would send blackaces93 away short of the goal again in eighth place ($6,800.00).

Continuing with the theme of a turbo finish, a third consecutive pre-flop all-in would take place. Luckily no one had pocket nines but Kzzon's [Qs][Ts] would need a little luck against hello_totti's [Ad][9s]. Neither player touched the [6d] [Jc] [5d] [6s] [2c] board as Kzzon notched a $10,000.00 score in seventh place.

The players would take an unusually early break to discuss possible chop figures but a general lack of agreement would leave the $64K up top as all six players would safely enter the ninth hour of play.

Ten minutes into the new hour with the blinds up to 65K/130K ante 13K dlanger610 would raise to 299,000 as 3WhiteTigers called out of the big blind. Both would check the [9s][3h][3d] flop but 3WhiteTigers' remaining 785K chips would reach the middle after the [Th] turn. Dlanger610 would make the call holding a slight advantage with flopped quads [3s][3c] rendering 3WhiteTigers' [Qs][Jc] moot and ready to receive $14,000.00 in sixth place.

Five hands later as the blinds moved up to 80K/160K ante 16K hello_totti decided to apply pressure to the big blind shoving for five million chips. OneH1tWonder, who made a Sunday Million final table as well, would call all-in for 1.6 million holding [Kc][Jc]. Unfortunately, the bully had the goods turning over big slick [Kh][Ad] and the superior hand held up [Js] [3s] [Ah] [2s] [7h] shipping $18,000.00 to OneH1tWonder in fifth place.

Halfway through the ninth hour of play with the blinds holding, chip leader lipeabruzzi would min-raise from the small blind as jbugueno shoved for two million with [Qs][Td]. Running face-first into lipeabruzzi's queens [Qh][Qc]. Those queens would be the end of jbugueno's run at this Sunday Major [As] [7d] [7h] [Ah] [Jd] earning $24,800.00 in fourth place.

After dlanger610's "HELLO HELLO HELLO" shout in the chat box woke up hello_totti and lipeabruzzi they would chat briefly about chopping up the remaining funds. But, hello_totti was looking to lock up close to second place funds at the dominate chip leader's expense. Lipeabruzzi calmly advised "ICM or nothing" and nothing was the call as the cards went back up in the air.

A few minutes later with the blinds moving up again to 100K/200K ante 20K lipeabruzzi would raise from the button as hello_totti declined the chip leader's advances and shoved for 3.69 million from the small blind. "gg gl" was all hello_totti could say after seeing pocket sevens [7d][7s] dominated by lipeabruzzi's eights [8d][8s]. The eights would hold on the [4s] [Kh] [Th] [6s] [Kd] board ending hello_totti's run in third place ($36,000.00).

Despite the 15.2 million to 4.7 million chip advantage, lipeabruzzi welcomed some quick chop talks from dlanger610 as the two were able to make the deal below and play for $8,500.

lipeabruzzi: $53,629.09
dlanger610: $49,870.91

Good timing on lipeabruzzi's part as dlanger610 won the second hand of heads-up play for 3.4 million chips, then doubled-up after turning trips while fading lipeabruzzi's flush draw. This flipped the chip counts in dlanger610's favor 13.4 million to 6.5 million.

An advantage dlanger610 would not give up as six minutes later with the blinds still at 100K/200K ante 20K both players would trade pre-flop raises until 16.3 million chips sat in the middle. Dlanger610 held pocket nines [9h][9c] which had a way of finding aces, kings, and queens earlier but would get a fair shake here against lipeabruzzi's [Ad][Qd]. A turned straight [6s] [7s] [Tc] [8d] and no chop on the river [Qc] would end in dlanger610's favor earning $58,370.91 as this week's Sunday Warm-Up champion!
