TLDR: Randomly got a 1-on-1 boxing lesson w/ a heavyweight named Big Cat.
Long version: Last night, after grinding up all day, I lost almost all my chips on the last hand of the night in the Wynn $100k Guarantee, I decided to find a workout in Class Pass which I'm trying out for two weeks (it's an app that allows you to take classes at studios in their network for one price) I found a boxing class. I thought "Perfect! A place I can punch something!" I was in yoga pants a Tom's but imagined a bunch of a girls/guys in front of pinching bags in a big class. I thought it would be fine.
I pull up to a small place in an industrial park. The only people I can see are two dudes with boxing gloves... I think I made a mistake, this is weird. I'm totally not prepared. As I'm about to pull out, a woman (Christina) walks out and asks me if I'm there for the class. I say yes, embarrassed, but I signed up on class pass without really know what it was and I'm not wearing the right clothes. She said they were about to close up for the night and Big Cat already left but that she'd do the class if I wanted. I wanted to decline, I was so I uncomfortable, but decided EF IT. I can be out of my comfort zone for an hour!
I go in. She and her husband run me through jump ropes, planks and then teach me how to jab and punch. Then, Big Cat walks in. He's a 280 pound heavy weight boxer and owner of the gym. First thing he does is put his fist in my face. "You're dead. Protect your head, gloves up!" He proceeded to personally run me through one of the toughest workouts I've ever done. It, and he, was amazing. So hard core. I loved every second! I can see how it's not for everyone, but if you want to get in amazing shape and like super high intensity, you should check it out! I'll be back for sure. Moral of the story-- try something new, even if it's scary! You could find a new love!
