This month's player spotlight of @Ladies International Poker Series is on Ruth Hall, whom we are very happy to have as a RankingHero member!
What is your background?
Human Resources at Zurich-US headquarters. H.R. lead me into 20 years of Corporate Relocation. I currently manage over $2m of relocations a year for various companies. Grew up in Iowa, raised my daughters in Chicago, and we eventually moved down to Texas to get out of the cold in 2001. I prefer warm weather for my cancer & Austin is the most beautiful city in Texas.
How did you get started in poker?
My family played cards once a week with friends., I learned old school poker games. Always in competitions growing up with cheerleading, fast pitch softball, power volleyball. After breast cancer I had aged out of those sports at 36. Played poker online, free bar poker, private home leagues, ladies only events, then every single day in 2009 I played in open events at three different casinos in Lawton/Fort Sill, OK. Have played in the WSOP, WSOP Circuit, LIPS/SPT, CardPlayer, WPT, & RunGood poker series since then.
What is a good early story about your poker beginnings?
I was only a no limit player, had never tried mixed games. While in Tulsa, OK I bubbled the ladies event with a set of jacks to runner runner straight. Had to stay overnight, so I played their limit event the next day. By using a ratio % to improve post flop, I won the event. I had to ask the Dealer what a 4 bet was, now that was beginner’s luck!
