No real reason for my little rant there except I give a lot of grief/trolling to Chicago fans. Can't say I'll stop, but I'm pulling for you.
Some of my best friends are STL fans and I've gotten nothing but love for them, but I'm pulling for Pops right now.
I'm absolutely on board with the Cubs and it 100 percent has to do with my Dad and every other fan who has waited a lifetime for this.
I give Cubs fans a lot of grief, but when Dad calls me tonight and says he was close to tears after game...that's what it's all about.
He was so happy for me in 08 and 11 when Brewers made playoffs. Being able to experience joy he felt in 84. We talked after every game.
Eventually I embraced my hometown team and Brewers moved to NL, I pulled back on Cubs fandom. Dad didn't. Gave us good rivalry.
Five years later Dawson and Walton and Smith led Cubs back to playoffs and now I was old enough. We cheered them on. Tough loss to SF.
He was 29 in 1984 (I was 4) and he went absolutely nuts when Cubs beat Pirates to clinch NL East to get back to playoffs. Tough series vs SD
Brewers came to Milwaukee the next year, but after '69, there was no way my Dad was switching sides. Cubs had his heart.
The year was 1969 and the Cubs were in first place for 155 days. They went 8-17 in September and choked it away. Broke his heart.
