My PokerAcademy
Poker Goals, Summer Plans, Twitch & More.

How is everyone doing?

I'm not doing too bad myself. I am struggling to get through finals and begin my summer break on June 22nd. I feel like i'm looking forward to this summer more than any other summer because I have a lot of plans, and a lot of work that I need to do, but just don't have time for it now. First of all, I'm going to be working on my Twitch Stream (twitch.tv/mypokeracademy) everyday. Going to try to put in a lot of hours of broadcasting, put in the poker volume, and constantly try to improve both my poker game, and my stream. We have a ton of cool plans coming up for My Poker Academy. We are launching a new website very soon.

I was thinking for the summer, I will try to have an official stream schedule for July (which is the best month for me as I have family and friends coming over from all parts of the world in August). August will still have a lot of volume, but not as much as July and September for sure. I was thinking we could have a summer league on PokerStars. You can join the home game club by going to twitch.tv/mypokeracademy, and typing "!homegame" in chat, and you will get the details for it.

I have set the following goals for 2015 (but mostly for the Summer I guess): 1. Break-even and end the downswing that is haunting me this year. 2. Win a big MTT (Recently started focusing on tournaments more than cash games and SNGs). 3. Build a bankroll and maintain a consistent profit. 4. Make enough money to go to EPT Prague in December. 5. Grow the stream by streaming as often as possible. 6. Make enough money to invest in a professional grind setup including 2 monitors, a new PC, pro webcam, and pro microphone. 7. Finish the year with $10k+ in profit (a bit difficult but Daniel Negreanu, who is a firm believer of setting goals, always says that you should never set easy goals).

Two streams ago was a pretty good session. I started my nightly tournament grind off stream and didn't really plan on streaming at all just because I wasn't feeling too good about the grind. All of a sudden, I was in a $16.50 MTT and we were down to the last 12 players. So i ran to my bedroom to get all my stream equipment, hooked everything up, and fired up the stream. One of the goals I set for the stream was to make a final table on stream so I just couldn't miss this opportunity. It was a great stream. We peaked in viewers, with over 100 constant viewers, and a lot of new followers and fans of the stream. You can check out how the Final Table played out by checking out my youtube video here below.

Other stream goals: Win a tournament on stream; Win $1k+ on stream; Grow the stream and become a Twitch Partner; Continue making new friends and developing person relationships with the viewers (You can reach me on twitter @JonahVella).

Also for the Summer, I will have different themes for the stream. On certain days, I will try to get some of my poker friends on the show via skype or in person. I think it is a good way to keep the stream active and entertaining. I already have a couple of people who want to be on the stream, so that's great. Hopefully I can start meeting a lot of new people in the poker industry and get some pros living in Malta, or not, on the stream too. Who knows, maybe you will be seeing Ike Haxton on here one day :D

That's something I have been working on a lot recently: Networking. I grew up playing home cash games but most of my poker friends either don't play online, or are not into poker that much that I can speak to them about poker things. I have a couple of good friends who I talk to on a daily basis, but I am trying to meet more people. I love making new friends, and it's a lot of fun when that person shares the same view as me on Poker, the game I love so much. So i like the combination. I also think it is cool to be a part of a poker group, where different players can discuss certain spots with each other. I am also networking to get my name out there in the poker world. I want to succeed not just in my own poker career, but also in the industry. I want to promote poker, because it has done so many cool things for me, and I want to share that with the world. I am also a firm advocate of regulating online poker in the US; Equality in Casino Legislation in Malta (which at the moment allows 18+ foreigners but 25+ Maltese Nationals).

So that's gonna be all for this blog. I think it was a good summary of what's been going on, my plans for the Summer, My goals for poker and the stream, and some other cool things that came to mind. Stay tuned for me stuff as I begin writing my next blog regarding my new bankroll challenge (NLH Zoom).

You can share this on Twitter, Facebook, and wherever you want. Stay connected with me and My Poker Academy on Twitter and Instagram (@mypokeracademy and @JonahVella), Twitch (twitch.tv/mypokeracademy) and Youtube (youtube.com/mypokeracademy).

Until next time.
