E. HeroScore

For more information on how the algorithm works, and what your score means, head over to the TUTORIAL.

25. What is HeroScore?

HeroScore is a meta-ranking system for the poker world. Using aggregated public data about poker players, it employs sophisticated algorithms to calculate the overall influence and prestige that a particular player has within the community.

26. Why did you create this?

First, we thought it would be fun.

Second, we believe poker isn’t just a card game. It’s also a community, one with a fascinating social structure filled with uniquely incredible personalities. Poker attracts all kinds of people and has been mixing cultures, nationalities and generations for many years. For us, HeroScore is an innovative and interesting way of looking at the community through the filter of real data.

We at RankingHero believe that everyone in poker is a hero. Though we all differ in skill and knowledge, we all compete under the same rules and with the same passion. We all make great calls, gutsy bluffs and suffer terrible bad beats, and we’ve all had our moments, good or bad. Poker is our common denominator and as members of this great family, we all have something to be proud of.

Poker has always been and will probably always be mostly about money, but for most of us, it’s not the only reason to play. Poker is also a social event, a battle of minds, a journey into discipline, courage, self-control and knowledge and most of all an exercise in self-discovery. The game also has a very unique history, one where some of the finest deductive minds in the world clash with the greatest feats of gambling. Those are some of the values behind HeroScore’s official hashtag #morethanmoney.

So that is why we created HeroScore: to allow the poker community to record all of its achievements and exploits and celebrate our champions, ambassadors and contributors from the past, present and future.

27. How does HeroScore work?

Once you grant access by taking control of your RankingHero profile and connecting your data sources, HeroScore collects objective, numerical data about your poker results and social activity on various websites, including poker communities and forums, social networks and poker news sites. It also allows you to connect more networks and enter achievements or jobs occupied in the poker industry, in order to get a score and description that reflects who you really are.

We have also carefully collected the achievements of some of the most respected players and leaders in the community. If you are one of these people, you can easily take control of your page in order to make any modification you see fit.

HeroScore uses efficient algorithms to calculate three indicators for every player: poker results, popularity and contribution to the community. It aggregates these scores into a total: your HeroScore. It also automatically generates a description of your influence in poker in natural language, for example “John Doe is a respected poker champion and great contributor”.

But that’s not all. Your friends, as well as your poker fans if you are a well-known professional player, can also upvote your scores and achievements if they want to show appreciation for you and what you have accomplished.

28. How do I see my HeroScore?

RankingHero members: log in to RankingHero.com and look at your profile page. It should be on the left hand side, and also in the top link bar on the right. Your achievements, once submitted, are listed in the “about” section under your HeroScore box.

Non-members: create an account and take control of your profile.

Non-members with no live poker results in our database need to create a new account from scratch, connect their networks and enter their achievements.

29. I think my score is too low! What if my description doesn’t reflect who I am?

You have two clear options. One, you can authorize us to use more data sources, such as social networks, poker communities, online poker tournament databases. You can check our own extensive live poker tournaments database to see if we have all of your results correctly entered (if we don’t, email us at heroscore@rankinghero.com). You can also add achievements and jobs to earn more points. Two, if you don’t like the idea of having a HeroScore, feel free to email heroscore@rankinghero.com and we’ll anonymize your profile.

30. What is your privacy policy?

RankingHero has the utmost respect for the privacy of its members.

HeroScore is a non-intrusive tool that is free for all member of the poker community. We use publicly available numerical indicators, such as how many followers you have or how many messages you have posted on a particular online community forum. Our “poker results” ranking is based on both live and online tournament results.

We also give you total control over your public image. Take control of your profile today to make any changes. Additionally, you can ask to be anonymized on RankingHero by sending an email to heroscore@rankinghero.com.

31. How do you deal with controversial players?

If a player is in the middle of a public controversy, we reserve the right to stop displaying his HeroScore indefinitely until we feel the controversy has ended. For appeals or various concerns, email heroscore@rankinghero.com.

32. My score is too high!

Good for you! If that still bothers you, email us at heroscore@rankinghero.com with your feedback.

33. The sentence that describes me does not reflect who I am in poker at all!

This sentence should not be taken too seriously. As of today, no algorithm can perfectly reflect who we are to a community. The best way to solve this is to connect more networks to your account and enter your achievements in poker, so your HeroScore moves up and the sentence improves.

34. Are there HeroScore rankings?

At RankingHero, we think rankings are fun! They generate endless conversation, speculation, competition and even sometimes controversy. Rankings can stimulate us and lead us to go beyond what we believe to be our personal limits.

For now, you can rank players by total score and score category. Soon, you’ll be able to see who has the best HeroScore in your country, or rank by achievement and discover the most influential bloggers, forum posters, journalists, filmmakers, professionals and comedians of the industry.

35. Someone else has taken control of my profile!

Email us or look up our general FAQ above.

36. I've just entered my social network and online room accounts, filled in my profile with my achievements but my HeroScore doesn't raise!
