Curing WSOP Envy

If you're anything like me (and, if you are, I'm really sorry) you probably have a nagging case of World Series of Poker Envy creeping up on you. It starts like a summer cold. You hope maybe it's just allergies. There are a couple of random tweets coming out of Vegas in which someone you know is updating her chip stack, and you think, "I can beat this. It won't get me this year." The next thing you know, you're hard-refreshing updates on every available online platform, riffling your souvenir chip stack, and challenging your dog to play heads-up for rolls. And then the dog wins, because he's well-trained, and you were too damned aggressive.

That's how it goes, and it will last for another seven weeks unless you do something about it.

What to do? Well, it's a process. For me, it's knowing that the PokerStars Blog will eventually be headed out to Vegas for its 12th consecutive year. In the meantime, it's my job to look out for those of you who have the itch this weekend.

So, here are some quick fixes to help you get through the early stages.

SCREEN KIDPOKER

As I wrote yesterday, the KidPoker documentary is now available on Netflix in select countries. I watched it yesterday, and though I've known Daniel Negreanu for a lot of years now, I learned a lot that I didn't know. Whether you love him or hate him, you'll come away from the documentary with a much better understanding of one of the world's best known players.

TRY TO WIN $1 MILLION

The other day, Kara Scott (decked out in a green dress) reminded me of the Barenaked Ladies line that always made me laugh from the song "If I had a Million Dollars." It just so happened, that was around the same time PokerStars announced it was bringing back the $5 Spin & Go tourneys that award up to $1 million.

Once again, for a limited time, the $5 Spin & Go events will give you the chance to bink a million-dollar win in a matter of minutes. That would go a long way toward getting you to the WSOP and cure that case of summer camp envy.

BUILD YOUR OWN PYRAMID

If you'd rather grind away your problems this weekend, consider the brand new PokerStars challenge. All you have to do is sign up and try to build your own pyramid of wins. Once you do, you can win anywhere between $1 and $5,000 every day until June 10.

You can find full details on the Pyramid challenge right here

LISTEN TO THE EPT NOT LIVE PODCAST

James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton are back with the 49th episode of their EPT Not Live podcast. It's a good companion to the KidPoker documentary, because Negreanu is a guest on the show. In it, they talk about Negreanu's recent trip to Romania before getting to discussing the Super High Roller Bowl, the WSOP, the Rocky franchise, Game of Thrones, and American politics.

You can listen to the whole thing here.

ER...PLAY YOUR DOG HEADS-UP?

Again, this is not a great option, but as I can't play on PokerStars, and I've already checked off the other other two options, the dog is going to have to sit with me again. If she slow-rolls me with aces again, I will have a dog for sale at the WSOP.
