Arguably the only question unanswered about Jason Mercier's SCOOP win over the weekend was why it didn't send him straight to the top of the Player of the year leader board? Well, in any other competition maybe it would. But SCOOP is any competition, and the players ahead of him - Shaun Deeb and SixthSenSe19 specifically - just happened to be playing out of their skins.
Come to think of it, the same applies to every player in the top ten, where all eyes now turn in these last hours of SCOOP 2016.
There are four leader boards in all, one each for the low, medium and high competitions, and an overall leader. Needless to say the same names are cropping up in each.
* Deeb leads the Low category, ahead of SixthSenSe19 and Vichyn88.
* In the Medium category Dzmitry "Colisea" Urbanovich tops the table, ahead of Päffchen and Deeb.
* In the High category it is Vladimir "vovtroy" Troyanovskiy who has the slenderest of leads, five points ahead of Jason Mercier, and ten points ahead of Team Online's Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara.

Calvin Anderson deserves the first hat tip, having won his seventh SCOOP title in SCOOP 40-L, good to move him into sixth place on the leader board. It was worth $7,511 to Anderson, but is the win rather than the prize money that makes him a legitimate SCOOP giant.
Mercier's win in SCOOP 42-M shores up his third place spot and puts him within 40 points of Deeb. Deeb missed out on final tables this week but consistently ran deep to keep his points tally ticking over. That same story applied equally to second placed SixthSenSe19.
Going to the wire between Jason Mercier and Shaun DeebThen there's Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah in fourth place. As we reported last week he narrowly missed a title in opening days of SCOOP 2016, finally won one last week, and then added a second of the year over the weekend in SCOOP 48-H.
There the Canadian took on some of the best stud players in the game, beating Luke "lb6121" Schwartz heads-up but only after getting past the likes of Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara, Stephen "Stevie444" Chidwick and Jens "Fresh_oO_D" Lakemeier.
Some of those names would reappear at the final table of SCOOP 44-H, won by Matthew "MUSTAFABET" Ashton. This one was a HORSE event, and appealed to the best in the game as the last eight demonstrated.
Adam "Adamyid" Owen would finish seventh here, before winning SCOOP 46-M. Luke Schwartz would bust in sixth while Team Pro Eugene Katchalov would narrowly miss out in fifth place. Ashton then got the better of Kihara in second place to win the title.

Finally, while he might not be in contention for Player of the Year, it has been a great 12 months for Niall "firaldo87" Farrell who added the SCOOP 47-H title to his list of achievements. That win was worth a first prize of $159,000 to the recent EPT Malta winner, the result of a two way deal with runner up Felix "ZhipOHoy" Stephensen.
