2015 ACOP Day 1B: Railing Ronaldo

It's a rare sight that a poker player has their own security on the tournament floor.

Today, however, that's exactly what we're witnessing.

Football superstar Ronaldo Nazario is among the field here today, with two members of his personal security team posted at each end of the table.

It may seem excessive but with what we've seen this week it makes sense. Ronaldo was here yesterday for a press conference and a promotional sit n go, and he seemed unable to go anywhere away from the poker area without being followed by a horde of fans.

The Brazilian football legend first teamed up with PokerStars back in 2013. It was then that he joined Team PokerStars SportStar in a bid to grow the game in his home nation and the world.

Ronaldo is considered one of football's greatest players with a pro career spanning 19 years. The all-time leading World Cup goal scorer, he is now channelling his competitive spirit and sporting success to the poker tables.

Earlier this year Ronaldo proved he was well-deserved of a spot on Team PokerStars SportStar. A 26th place finish in the PCA Paradise Island Main Event saw him pocket $42,180. With this week's Main Event prize pool guaranteed to be a healthy one, Ronaldo will be looking to eclipse that cash and set himself a new record.

Ronaldo's presence is definitely good for the game here in Macau, but one person seemingly more excited than the rest is Team PokerStars Pro Online Randy 'nanonoko' Lew. He just happens to be sitting on Ronaldo's table today and has taken to social media to share his enthusiasm.

"Group picture with @Ronaldo in @PokerStarsMacau !!! And of course the other team pros! but it's RONALDO!!! #2015ACOP" Lew Tweeted after yesterday's press conference.

And after taking his seat this afternoon Lew added, "OMG @Ronaldo 2 to my left! Day1b of the $100k HKD #2015ACOP Main Event now! Such an honor. Teach him a poker lesson?"
