cmontopdeck comes out on top in 10/27/15 Super Tuesday, wins $81K

The $1,050 Super Tuesday was back in action tonight on PokerStars, sporting a fancy new (bigger) $425K guarantee, and once again the turnout was impressive as 493 took part to create a guarantee-exceeding $493,000 prize pool.

It would take the better part of 11 hours for those 493 to play down to just one -- the U.K.'s cmontopdeck who after a three-way deal at the final table earned a first-place prize of $81,204.59. Here's the story of how cmontopdeck came out on top.

After five-and-a-half hours the field had been carved down to 64 players and the money bubble had arrived. Shortly after short stack vilnur 007 fell in 64th in a hand versus chip leader Bart "pablito_2121" Moens, and they were in the money.

That hand pushed Moens up toward the 200,000-chip mark, at the time well ahead of the chase pack hovering around 125,000.

By the seven-hour mark they were down to 18 players, with Bart "pablito_2121" Moens having settled back to the middle of the counts and Doug "WCG|Rider" Polk having ascended to assume frontrunner status with just under 300,000.

Nelisschuif7 (18th), zÿax (17th), and Sebastian "p0cket00" Sikorski (16th) next went out, earning $3,944 each. Then duubadaaba (15th), plokker292 (14th), and Samuel "SamuelBT" Tsehai (13th) were successively eliminated, taking away $4,930 apiece. And Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov (12th), Ken "kenny05" Smaron (11th), and darthVaderNL (10th) were the next three knockouts, each cashing for $5,916.

With WhatA298 the new chip leader after having built a stack of more than 600,000, the final table was underway.

Seat 1: Bart "pablito_2121" Moens (Belgium) -- 373,840
Seat 2: WhatA298 (United Kingdom) -- 603,037
Seat 3: riversouza (Brazil) -- 68,378
Seat 4: FaceStealer (Costa Rica) -- 221,127
Seat 5: flashdisastr (Luxembourg) -- 260,699
Seat 6: Doug "WCG|Rider" Polk (Australia) -- 373,786
Seat 7: Sam "aaajack" Chartier (Canada) -- 142,959
Seat 8: cmontopdeck (United Kingdom) -- 284,730
Seat 9: Johannes "Greenstone25" Korsar (Sweden) -- 136,444

On the fifth hand of the final table, the blinds were 3,600/7,200 when FaceStealer opened from under the gun for 15,145, then Doug "WCG|Rider" Polk called from a couple of seats over. It folded around to riversouza who called as well from the big blind, and the three saw a flop come [3s][3d][Qs]. It checked to Polk who fired 14,500, riversouza then check-raised all in for 48,833, and after FaceStealer folded, Polk made the call.

riversouza showed [4c][4s], but Polk had [As][Ad]. The turn was the [Qh] and river the [7c], and riversouza was done in ninth.

Just seven minutes later Sam "aaajack" Chartier opened for 15,400 from middle position, cmontopdeck three-bet to 41,600 from a seat over, then it folded back around to Chartier who shoved for 193,259 total and cmontopdeck called.

cmontopdeck had the edge with [Ac][Kh] versus Chartier's [Ah][Jh], and five cards later -- [2s][9c][Ts][Qc][7d] -- cmontopdeck's Big Slick was still best and Chartier was eliminated in eighth.

Two hands after that, Bart "pablito_2121" Moens raised to 15,400 from MP, then FaceStealer shoved from the button for 164,482 and Moens called. It was a similar scenario as had just occurred, with Moens holding [Ah][Jh] and FaceStealer [As][Kd]. But this time the board ran out [Jd][Ac][8h][9d][Js] which meant ace-jack was best, and FaceStealer was knocked out in seventh.

A short while later, flashdisastr open-raised all in for 92,327 (about 11.5 big blinds) from the cutoff and got one caller in Doug "WCG|Rider" Polk sitting on the button. flashdisastr had [Ts][9c] while Polk had picked up [Ad][As] once again, and for the second time at the final table Polk's aces meant the end of an opponent's run as the board came [4d][8d][3h][Qd][6c] to stop flashdisastr in sixth.

Alas for Polk, things went differently soon thereafter in a hand that began with Polk raising just over 2x to 20,250 from the button, then cmontopdeck three-bet to 52,900 from the small blind. Polk responded by shoving all in for 241,216 and cmontopdeck called, showing [As][Kd] to Polk's [Ad][Qs]. The community cards came [9c][3c][Jh], then [5d], then [Jc], and Polk was finished in fifth.

The final four battled onward, then with the blinds up to 5,000/10,000 it was Bart "pablito_2121" Moens open-raising all in for 136,519 from the button with [Ad][5d] and getting called by cmontopdeck in the big blind with [Kd][Ts]. The [9s][9c][7c] flop and [8c] turn were okay for Moens, but the river [Tc] paired cmontopdeck and Moens was knocked out in fourth.

The remaining players made past the tournament's 10-hour mark, then collectively decided to pause proceedings to discuss a possible deal. By then cmontopdeck was on top with 1,149,994, Johannes "Greenstone25" Korsar next with 682,560, and WhatA298 third with 632,446. "ICM"-based figures were soon produced (leaving $8,000 for which to play), and all three players quickly agreed.

About 10 minutes later leader cmontopdeck min-raised to 28,000 from the button, Johannes "Greenstone" Korsar three-bet to 88,000 from the small blind, cmontopdeck made it 184,000 to go, Korsar shoved for 826,760 total, and cmontopdeck called.

Korsar had [Ah][Kh] while cmontopdeck showed [8d][8c], then the board came six-high -- [6h][2h][6d][2c][3c] -- leaving cmontopdeck with the best hand and Korsar with a third-place finish.

The two Brits who had made the final table were all that remained. Winning that pot versus Korsar gave cmontopdeck nearly a 3-to-1 chip lead to start heads-up play with 1,835,734 to WhatA298's 629,266.

WhatA298 battled gamely but after a short while had been whittled down to less than 265,000. That's when cmontopdeck opened with a 2x raise to 32,000 from the button, WhatA298 shoved, and cmontopdeck called.

WhatA298: [3s][3d]
cmontopdeck: [As][Qc]

The [5h][Qh][8c] flop quickly swung the advantage over to cmontopdeck, and the [4s] turn left WhatA298 looking for one of the two remaining treys. But the river brought the [8h] and it was over -- cmontopdeck had won.

Congratulations to cmontopdeck for outlasting nearly 500 players to win this week's Super Tuesday, and kudos also to WhatA298 and Johannes "Greenstone25" Korsar for making it to the three-way deal and ensuring nice paydays for themselves as well.
