World of Poker in Awe of Newhouse for Achieving Mission Impossible

The only back-to-back November Niner since the format's adoption is also back-to-back first-to-bust from the WSOP Main Event final table. One wonders if this is the poker gods' way of getting back at him because he defied the odds and achieved the unthinkable: making the November Nine two years in a row. @Mark Newhouse was out first in 2013 and vowed not to finish 9th again the second time around. By an ironic twist of fate, it is exactly what happened.

WSOP 2013 Main Event (6,352 entries!). Mark Newhouse is the first to leave the final table on November 4, 2013, Hand 36, with pocket 9's

WSOP 2014 Main Event (6,683 entries!). Mark Newhouse is the first to leave the final table on November 11, Hand 56, with pocket 10's

Today the poker community's commiseration for Mark Newhouse's early elimination is only matched by the awe for what he accomplished. Mark Newhouse has set a high benchmark for thousands of poker players dreaming the WSOP dream and whatever the poker gods' intent, his place in the players' pantheon is assured forever :)

PokerNews Live Updates:

Hand 56: Andoni Larrabe had the button.

Jorryt van Hoof opened to 1.1 million from the hijack and Mark Newhouse came along from the cutoff. With the action on Will Tonking in the small blind, he three-bet to 3.75 million and van Hoof quickly mucked before Newhouse called.

The dealer spread a {2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{J-Hearts} flop. Tonking led out for 3.5 million with Newhouse making the call. The {4-Hearts} landed on the turn and Tonking went into the tank before checking, then Newhouse bet out 4.5 million. Tonking called.

The river brought the {J-Clubs} and after the New Jersey native checked again, Newhouse moved all in for 10.2 million.

After about a minute of deliberating, Tonking announced a call and Newhouse flipped over his {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.
