Johnny Chan, or 'The Orient Express' as he is nicknamed, is one of the best poker players in the world. He is the fourth and last player to capture back-to-back World Series of Poker Main Event titles (1987, 1988). Amazingly enough, in 1989, Chan played for his third consecutive world champion title and finished runner-up to Phil Hellmuth.
In the twenty years between his first and tenth WSOP bracelet, the China-born American pro established himself as one of the legends of the game. His heads-up with Erik Seidel in the 1988 World Series is featured in the all-time favorite poker movie Rounders, in which Chan makes a cameo appearance himself.
Chan earned his 'Orient Express' nickname in 1981, after eliminating all nine finalists in Bob Stupak's American Cup in less than an hour. His many legendary feats in poker further include his four victories (out of six appearances) in the Poker After Dark show and climbing to second place at the Poker Superstars Invitational in 2005 with only $20,000 in chips when there were $3.2 million on the table.
