So the dealer has fanned a monotone board of all spades. The Swede has opened with a 12,000 chip bet into a pot of 28,800. He's stoic, and gives off no tells. But I already know a few things.

First of all, it's highly unlikely that he's hit a flush on the flop. If you play suited cards, you're only going to flop a flush about .84% of the time. And if you manage to flop a draw, you'll only get there about 6.5% of the time. So I'm fine with the spades because I know I can draw to the full house if he hits.

Secondly, if he has a draw, it's likely he will try betting to freeze me up here and see the turn for a cheap price that he sets himself. But I'm having none of that.

However, I still want maximum value here, and I want him to believe I don't like this board. If I flat him and he has no spade, I can kill my own action. So I need to raise here to deceive him and to add value to this pot. But how much?

I decide that if I double his raise, it will string him along. There's just way too much value to this pot to fold, and I'm counting on him being confident in his ability to outplay me for this pot. After a little bit of time thinking it over, I raise to 24,000 chips. It should serve as enough of a play to give him pause, and if he jams here, I'm willing to call because I believe I'm ahead and am willing to gamble for a chance to move up the leader board as we head into the money. I place my bet and assume a Helmuthian pose and wait for his response, which I anticipate to be a call.

Imagine you’re in Malta playing the 2015 PokerListings Battle of Malta. Lucky you!

You are close to the bubble.
The blinds are 1,000/2,000/200.

Preflop

Everyone folds to the player in middle position. He’s an aggressive Swedish pro, with 136,250 chips, and he raises to 5,000. Two hands earlier, the villain lost 20% of his stack on a bluff on the river.

You’re on the button with K♥K♦ and a stack of 130,500.

You decide to 3-bet 12,000 chips.

The small blind and the big blind both fold.
Villain calls.

The pot is now 28,800 chips.

Flop

The dealer reveals Q♠K♠7♠.

Villain bets 12,000.

The action is back on you. You now have a 118,500 stack.

What do you do?

Hmm,ok lets imagine that i'm in vilain position and if I have a flush, in this hand i'll try to set a trap, just check-call,that means vilain not has a flush if he decide to bet 12000.so he comes with draws.

In this case i need reraise him at least 24000,and pray that he don't want reraise me.

HOW MY KK WENT ALL KRAY KRAY...

Time to get a little serious... as things start to get heavy, i see the monotone flop drop...KQ7sss

coooookieeeee

Arrghhhhh not what i was looking for but still.....lets do this....

The guy flatted my 3bet pre and now donks into me for 12K,my instant reaction to the size of this almost pot sized bet is....

no no no no no......wtf.......didnt see that coming....

The EV of my perceived 3betting range here is massive, he must know this...right?

Compared to the amount of negative EV hands that are costing him a lot in the long run (hands in red are -EV), on average he loses 34,000 chips every time he donks out in this spot....

Thank you kind sir , the Ambasador is indeed spoiling us...

My initial plan to set up an SPR of about 5 is going smooth as butter...

ive landed an SPR of 4.6, by rights i can pretty much stick my chips in now against his range and i'm good 83.19% of the time.

Even though this guy is aggressive, he's not an idiot, he's going to open a laggy but solid range from middle position approx;

22+,A9s+,KJs+,QTs+,JTs,T9s,98s,87s,76s,65s,A9o+,KJo+,QJo
About 17%,

he could even open up all his Ax suited on top of this and the percentages still dont really change much.
If he's holding the Ace of spades particularly, he only ever hits this flop about 9.2% of the time and im still a huge favourite.
His donk bet absolutely stinks of AJ,AQ,AT,A9 with the ace of spades(perhaps), but i'll even allow him to have a set here some of the time.
i dont see this line being taken with middle pair or top two on any day of the week, this may be the bubble but i'm not about to waste a decent opportunity here...he asks me if i have a spade in my hand....only one answer....
If the guy has no spade in his hand and the turn shows a spade,  He still shows up with no flush and no draw between 53% and 60% of the time depending on what card peels. In fact he would show up with no draw and no made hand more than half the time here...

He has a weak pair in his hand about 35% of the time and will probably show up with Ace High about 25% of the time, 20% of the time he'll have a gutshot,

so from his betting

he looks like he's got one of these a majority of the time and he's about to commit anyway, so it's either a raise or a jam from me.

Yay...fish : )

Villains Stack-To-Pot ratio is now about 3.7, so he may well be setting himself up to get stacks in as i had plannned to anyway. Yay : )

I'm leaning more towards a raise about a third of the size of his stack, so it looks like i can still fold if he decides to come over the top, 2.7x the size of his bet seems nice here, not too much to
scare him off but just enough to allow him to hang himself if he wants to go broke with Top Pair/Two Pair or a Set.

I think 32,000 is a decent raise size here, he may even put me on the Ace of spades himself and conclude that i am the one holding a nutted draw...

either way...

he takes off his sunglasses...

looks at me and all he can see is....

fuuuuuuuuuuuk

And i smell his fear...

This mission is already closed...But here it is THE new one - fun strategy contest with 900 euros to win in tickets :)

I Would 3 bet in position to around 12k. Make him either 4bet tilt his stack off or get some value in the process. #HandMalta #BOMpreflop.

Hey thanks for your post :) Here is the FLOP

How did a microstakes cash game donkey like me end up in this tourney? I have no idea. But right now I need to focus on this one spot. I really need to concentrate because i'm up against a professional here and I know he holds most of the edges and he does too!!! Although I like the idea of slowplaying here and letting the Swedish pro barrel, i'm still very worried that he will outplay me and by just flatting his raise i'm allowing him the opportunity to make some kind of nut buster against me such as a funky two pairs and set etc,

I think with having tagged villain as an aggressive pro we can give him quite a wide range for his MP open, similarly if we think about what our range will look like to villain when we 3bet from the button, I think our range can also look wide and contain some bluffs, will villain believe our 3bet from the button ? Unlikely! Will he come over the top with another raise? Likely! We also know these professional NEVER EVER EVER fold to 3bets! Haha. At least not from watching the EPT! Villain has enough in his stack that he could also 4bet us with worse pairs which would be a great result for us because we can 5bet get it in. If Villain folds then so be it, we rake in a big pot. If villain flats us, we can play the hand with that lovely thing called POSITION!

I'm also banking on the fact that they may be tilted after losing 20% of his stack not too long ago! How dare I 3bet him from the button. Swedish pro says "I has 4BET"!!!

So my move: I elect to raise to 13k.

Thank you Ranking Hero. Ace High Poker Group baby!
